The Great British Bake Off has been turned into a musical

So you consider yourself the biggest fan of The Great British Bake Off (or Great British Baking Show as it is called here in the United States) on the planet. You’ve watched each season more times than you can count, have all the books, and follow all the bakers on Instagram.

In fact, you are such a big fan that in your eyes, there can never be too many Great British Grill. You will watch the show year round if given the chance. They could turn the series into anything and you would consider that a good thing.

As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for.

It is being reported by Mashable that this summer The Great British Bake Off: The Musical will make its debut at the Everyman Theater in Cheltenham, England. No, it’s not a typo. Someone turned television’s most beloved baking contest into a stage musical.

And no, this isn’t an early April Fool’s joke. The musical got lucky and was developed with the help of Love Productions, the production company The Great British Bake Off. That TV show is. I guess we have to be more specific now.

The Great British Bake Off: The Musical is out this summer.

The musical is being directed by Rachel Kavanaugh with music and lyrics by Pippa Cleary and Jake Brunger.

So, what is it The Great British Baking Show: The Musical about exact? Glad you asked. By Everyman’s Theater website, the summary of the program is:

Follow the trials and tribulations of our bakers, all with their own stories to tell and as unique to each other as their wonderful baked creations. Find out who will win as the Star Baker, and who will fall to the soggy bottom. Expect warm characters, hearty laughs and catchy music in this original and brand new British musical, suitable for the whole family.

For some reason, I keep picturing a Paul Hollywood-type character singing about bread checks and an entire song and choreography production about Hollywood Handshake.

If you are a Great British Grill fans and need to see it, the show will run from July 22 to August 8, and tickets are on sale now. There is no word yet on when it will cross the pond to the US.
