The Elden Ring player beats the game without running, rolling, or jumping

Elden Ring is a pretty tough game. Even with the best sorcery, summons, and helpful companions, getting through to the endgame can be a real struggle. But even that isn’t quite hard enough for some, who have been reliably creating new challenges in Elden Ring since the game’s launch. The latest exploit sees a player decoupling from many of the game’s core mechanics by gearing well beyond their maximum weight limit.

If this sort of self-imposed masochism sounds familiar, that’s because the gamer in question, YouTuber Iron Pineapple, recently gained notoriety for completing a pacifist series of Elden Ring. While this challenge run isn’t quite as bloodless, Iron Pineapple still can’t jump, run, or roll. As an added challenge, they even forbade themselves to ride their horse, Torrent.

In Iron Pineapple’s own words, if you don’t have the patience for it, attempting this type of run would be “a nightmare.” So why? Well, at first they thought it was funny. But beyond that, they were interested to see how such a run could fundamentally change overworld encounters: “Each small win felt so much bigger, like I was defying Miyazaki in some meaningless way.” Maybe it is not such a bad idea to take your time trudging through The Lands Between, smelling the poison roses along the way.
