“I’ve made mistakes in the past where I’ve gone on a rampage on the pitch. I understand what the players are going through. But, of course, I don’t justify his actions. He, with the words he had in the statement, handled it the right way. He said he made a mistake and his actions were inappropriate. I think the type decision, you know, isn’t so harsh. I think it was correct under the circumstances.

“Of course, it is very harsh for a player to be sent off. I mean, I know. A year and a half ago I encountered something that I cannot say the same about, but I was disqualified at a Grand Slam tournament for accidentally hitting the line umpire. I realized it was a mistake and I had to accept it. Hopefully he can reflect on that and not let something like that happen again in his life. I’m sure he’ll approach it masterfully,” Djokovic said during his press conference.

With the world No. 1 position on the line, Djokovic is doing everything he has in hand. Even though he won the title in Dubai, if the world number 2 Daniil Medvedev wins in Acapulco, Daniil will replace the Serbian at the top of the rankings. Djokovic will however need to win the title and hope Medvedev doesn’t make it to the final to stay at the top of the standings.

Djokovic will participate Jiri Vesely in the quarterfinals in Dubai. Jere is currently leading Novak in head-to-head record after beating him in the second round of 2016 Monte Carlo Masters Win the match in 3 sets.
