As with any weapon powerful enough to be wielded by a demigod, it must be handled with wisdom and care. Diana has both of these qualities, which is why the Lasso of Truth is often hers to do – even though she has previously lost her weapon to someone else. During a DC Comics storyline, Wonder Woman’s cape is kept for a short time by Artemis, an Amazonian in Bana-Mighdall (via the DC Database).
Artemis differs from Diana in many ways, more violent and inexperienced. As Wonder Woman, she uses the Lasso of Truth in battle, having to use the relic on a few separate occasions to get people to tell the truth. However, one man was so affected by the truth that he revealed it to Artemis and himself to the point that he committed suicide. Although Artemis could not have foreseen the victim would take his own life, nor the truth he revealed, it does demonstrate the reckless use of lasso.
Sometimes, the truths that lasso’s underlings reveal are things they have yet to face themselves. From this encounter alone, it becomes clear that using the Lasso of Truth on certain individuals can be extremely dangerous and costly. Fortunately, Diana was able to become Wonder Woman again and it is certain that things like this will be avoided moving forward.
