The Daily Grind: Do you like Zerg vs Zerg PvP in MMOs?

In early 2023, Sandbox sent Interactive Albion Online Players completed a detailed poll asking about their gameplay preferences, and included a question about PvP type preferences – one of which was ZvZ, also known as Zerg vs. Zerg. And we need to talk about it because it’s one of those concepts that everyone immediately understands, but the term is rarely used. Hell, we had a day for Zerg, but not Zerg vs Zerg or ZvZ until today.

World vs World or Alliance vs Alliance, Guild vs Guild or (two-way) faction PvP are the terms we would rather use for large groups of players beating each other in PvP. And yet “Zerg” has some additional nuances; It feels like it’s less organized, that players run back from death to rejoin the fight, that it’s formless and maybe even leaderless and maybe even gateless. I’m thinking of some of the greats Dark Age of Camelot Hold battles or even the old Southshore standoffs.

Honestly I’m a fan of ZvZ and I wish it was an option in more MMOs. And you? Do you like Zerg vs Zerg PvP in MMOs? Where has it been best used?
