The Coolness of Baseball Positions, Ranking

Today Tom wrote a good blog about Aaron Judge, a rare, not odious member of the Vile Yankees. As is often the case with Defector Slack, this quickly devolved into Yankee bashing, a favorite pastime for almost all of the staff. Surprisingly, however, we all agreed that Bernie Williams was a very cool player on those teams, while the Yankees were a miserable institution and the late ’90s Yankees were boring shells.

When we tried to figure out why we all felt this way, we came to a simple conclusion: center fielders are cool guys! We love her! This then led to hours of debate about which baseball positions are the coolest, the outcome of which you can see below in our definitive and scientific – I made a spreadsheet and all – ranking. We primarily disagreed on the top spot and merits of the third basemen, and Drew threw himself in the water with a final second ranking that shifted a number of positions. It went as well as one could hope for.

(Before anyone asks, a few notes on our methodology: we decided that pitchers can be cool but are weird enough to be their own block, and the designated hitter is a wrong position and therefore not cool enough to even to be included.)

Ok, here is the list now:

  1. midfield player
  2. short stop
  3. catcher
  4. Third baseman
  5. Right Fielder
  6. Second baseman
  7. First Base Player
  8. Let a line drive drive you crazy
  9. Left Fielder

These are the baseball positions, ranked by coolness. The Coolness of Baseball Positions, Ranking
