Arguably the nicest guys in the UFC, Dan Hooker and Arnold Allen had an intense exchange in the first round, with both of them trying really hard to beat the exchange. Dan got Arnold pretty bad once, but then Arnold got the job done with his barrage of punches.

Dan Hooker was quite disappointed after his quick loss after traveling the world cutting weight to face Allen and was also quite excited to return to the division. Allen told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour that he and Dan shared the sauna and exchanged pleasantries, but also added talking about how nervous he was.

Arnold Allen further The MMA lesson said his game plan was to take Dan’s reach with his footwork, which would take at least half the power down, and Hooker would have a problem, and that’s what happened. “The man himself has not complained about it[Stoppage] and that was the biggest tell for me” Allen said after Izzy said the ref could have waited a while longer as he was cheering for his friend.

When it was first mentioned that Hooker wanted to go back to featherweight, many fans quickly realized that ‘The executioner’ could be down the street against his friend and City Kickboxing colleague Alexander Volkanovski. Alex watched the fight closely and looked in amusement at Allen for how nervous he was. He said:

“Arnold, I knew it was a tough fight anyway, it’s no joke. Dan applied the pressure, which I thought was okay because I noticed that Arnold looked very nervous. At the end he said he looked so nervous after the fight and I remember thinking man. I couldn’t believe how nervous he was.”

Allen also had some thoughts on Dan’s decision to move down a weight class. He said “Personally, I didn’t think it was the best choice.” [in weight] maybe that would be a good idea again, but he knows his body, he knows how it feels. But yeah, I think his best work is at lightweight. No knock on him or anything obvious, but I don’t think going for that extra cut is a good choice.
