What is a summer film anyway? Often the term is used to refer to films coming out in the summer (and there’s a lot to look forward to this year). Studios often save their biggest and boldest films for this time of year, where you can cool off in a cinema on a warm day.

But that’s not why we’re here today. We’re here to talk about movies feeling like summer. Beach parties, summer camps, hot days – it’s more than one season. It’s a mood.

That’s why our team of Polygon film scholars have compiled the following 17 films for you to enjoy this summer. That’s 17 films for 13 summer weeks, so the more adventurous among you can spread accordingly. Enjoy!
