Italy is considered by many as a roadblock to winning the right to participate in the World Cup. Instead, a great result against North Macedonia saw them out.

Four years ago in 2018 World Cup, Italy failed to make it to the much-anticipated international tournament, something that seemed odd at the time. But there’s no way that could ever happen to one of those football countries in the world, right?

On Thursday, Italy’s plight to try and qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar continued with a match against North Macedonia. Given the disparity between the two sides, one can hardly assume that an Italian defeat would eliminate them.

However, after trying to find a way to attack for the match, North Macedonia shocked Italy fans and the football world into second-half stoppage time with a goal that put them ahead 1. -0 and in the end, bring them victory.

And with that, Italy will officially not be able to compete in the 2022 World Cup.
