The Aztecs are taken down in the wooden heritage title game
ANAHEIM, Calif. – Trey Pulliam scored 11 points, while Lamont Butler and Aguek Arop each had nine, but the 24 Southern California Trojan, was able to limit the San Diego State Aztecs’ shooting to 32.1% and beat SDSU 58-43 in the Paycom Wooden Legacy’s championship game Friday night .
Isaiah Mobley scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds, Drew Peterson added 16 and Chevez Goodwin finished with 10 as the Trojans improved to 6-0. They held the Aztec draw only 15 points in the first half.
San Diego State (4-2) was held to the lowest opening half draw since 14 points against the Air Force on January 12, 2019.
The Aztecs had just one assist in the first half with six basket-balls taken and seven assists in total in the match. San Diego State also lost the recovery battle, with USC dropping 49 to SDSU’s 33.
Both teams managed to score before halftime, but the Trojans took an 8-0 lead in the 5:29 final to take a 22-15 lead at halftime. San Diego State had only 23.1% on target in the first half, while USC wasn’t much better with 33.3%.
USC started the second half 10-2 to take a 32-17 lead with 15:56 left in the game. The Aztecs didn’t hit the 20 point mark until 3 pointers were equal to Aguek Arop with 15:03 to play.
Boogie Ellis, who started the game leading the USC in scoring at 17.0 points per game, got just two points on a 1/6 shot.
San Diego State: A three-game winning streak over Top 25 teams has ended with the Aztecs, who face Bang Long Beach at home on Tuesday before a trip to Ann Arbor to face No. 20 Michigan on May 4. 12. San Diego State had a 10-2 record in neutral ground games before losing Friday.
