Footage and photos shared by the couple show a dirty pool, long lines, broken furniture, closed facilities, bins overflowing with rubbish and their food being attacked by seagulls.

In a lengthy caption accompanying their video, the vacationers further claimed that their rooms were moldy, that food was limited and that a staff member allegedly insulted their baby Jiah.

“Because if you don’t laugh, you will cry,” reads the caption.

“Ninety-nine percent of the time we present wonderful places to visit and stay, but this is not one of those opportunities.

“We hope you enjoy a little snapshot of our time on Daydream Island at @whitsundaysqld.

“Other fun things to note – our room was so moldy; the bathroom, lampshades, curtains and pillows.

“All the staff were teenagers and hated being on the island too.

“We ordered two glasses of champagne, the girl only filled them both halfway: we took her back and said, ‘champagne is to be filled to the top,’ and she said, ‘that’s all we have left.’

“The resort claims to be an eco resort but there is plastic and trash everywhere and there is no recycling system. This is just an excuse not to have to replace the towels.

“Everything is always closed or out of order: the pools, bars, vending machines, pool table, playground, coffee machine, water sports – nothing ever works – the ‘free’ breakfast buffet (which was disgusting) is empty at 8.30am[am]no food, tables or cutlery.

“A member of staff told us that Jiah looks like a chimpanzee – ants all over the room and on the bed, the pools were freezing and very dirty.”

The couple went on to say that the resort didn’t appear to be the same as the marketing images, adding that they wished they could do more research on the resort before booking their stay.

“False marketing imagery shows white sandy beaches – since Cyclone Debbie in 2017 there has been no sand on this island, just rocks and coral,” reads the caption for the video, which has attracted more than 60,000 views.

“If you don’t book dinner a week in advance, you won’t get a table at the restaurant and there’s no room service, so you’ll have to eat take-out pizza for seven nights while being attacked by seagulls.

“Lesson to be learned – never book any fancy resort you see on Instagram before reading the hundreds of negative Google reviews!

“We forfeited hundreds of dollars worth of lodging as soon as we could find other available lodging and continued on our little family vacation to Hamilton Island that was bliss.” has reached out to Daydream Island for comment.

Daydream Island has received negative reviews since China Capital Investment Group (CCIG) took over management of the resort in 2015.

TikTok users were shocked by the resort’s run-down state, which is shown in the couple’s video.

“Well I just took that off the holiday list,” replied one.

Another added: “We were there in 2020 and we called it nightmare island, honestly couldn’t wait to get away.”

Wrote another one: “This looks like the holiday from hell!”
