The Age of Empires 4 Season 2 update brings new maps, events, and other changes

Season 2 of Age of Empires 4 is here. With this latest update, released on Tuesday, there’s a special event, a new map, and a handful of new quality-of-life changes to improve the overall player experience.

The new map is a wooded area called The Pit, and the new event awards the usual collection of digital items like crests. As for more technical changes, an up-or-down voting system allows players to rank which maps they want to play or not in quick or ranked matches. The team at Relic Entertainment has also made it easier for players to tweak their controls, assign hotkeys, and remap commands in general. The latest patch also adds a “Panorama View” to give players a better bird’s-eye view of their glorious civilizations.

Developers noticed that after the last update saves and replays from previous versions of Age of Empires 4 no longer usable – although campaign progress is not lost, they said. “While we are doing our best to minimize the impact on saves, campaign and battle saves from the previous patch are affected and will no longer be available after the update.”

Age of Empires 4 is the next installment in the historical real-time strategy series from Relic and World’s Edge. It launched for Windows PC in October and is currently available to PC Game Pass subscribers. Age of Empires 4 is set in the Middle Ages, where players manage resources to grow their empires as efficiently and quickly as possible. The game also has competitive modes that include duels, team games, or free warfare with other civilizations. All of this can be played offline against AI opponents or online with other players.

The developers have also made some tiny changes to other aspects of the game, which can be found on the game’s official website.
