NS MLB The lockdown is happening to us, and in its first few hours there are some things that you wouldn’t expect to happen.

One of the things you may not know about the lockdown is that players and club officials must not communicate with each other. Players cannot use MLB facilities (including spring training facilities) and injured players cannot receive rehabilitation or treatment from the club’s coaches. But we mentioned that in this FAQ about locks and a history of retirement in baseball should not be included in this section.

Instead, there are three other things we’ve learned since the lockdown went into place at 12:01 a.m. ET on Thursday.

We already know why MLBPA and MLB are suspended

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred released a statement after the lockdown took place and he revealed some of the content that was placed on the table and what was suspended.

Manfred states that:

  • That owner “proposed to establish a minimum wage for all clubs that met for the first time in baseball history”
  • The owner had a plan to “allow the majority of players to access free agents earlier through an age-based system that would eliminate any claims of service time manipulation”
  • The bosses put in place a plan to “increase wages for all young players, including an increase in the minimum wage”.

Manfred also states that “[w]negotiations lack momentum,” the owners try to build momentum by accepting MLBPA proposals for:

  • A Universal Designated Hitter
  • The creation of a new draft system using the same lottery as other tournaments
  • Increased competitive equilibrium tax threshold will affect fewer groups
