The 10 Scariest Characters from the Five Night’s at Freddy’s Series

The Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise spans nearly a dozen games and is known for some of the most famous jump scares in the genre. But not all evil characters and horrors are made of the same stuff and some will be scarier than others. With a plethora of them to pick and choose from within the franchise, picking just 10 of the scariest is a tall order, but that’s exactly what we’re going to do in this article. So read on and find out what are the 10 scariest characters in the Five Nights at Freddy’s games.
10. Golden Freddy

As the incarnation of the titular character of the pizzeria and the series, Freddy has several different faces that he can use to scare the player. But one of the scariest has appeared since the first game in the series – the Golden Freddy. What makes him so scary isn’t just his looks, but the terror of being able to move through closed doors, unlike other animatronics. Let that sink in for a moment.
9. Ennard

Ennard first appeared in FNaF 5: Sister Location and appears as a cobbled machine with bits and pieces of other animatronics, topped with a creepy clown mask. He’s one of the animatronics with the highest number of different jumpscares, but what makes it worse is that if you look closely, you’ll find that his body is made up of parts from the four main animatronics.
8. Ballora

Ballora first appears in FNaF 5: Sister Location and looks like the most humanoid of all contemporary animatronics. This gives her an eerie look and presence, which gets worse when her face cracks open revealing the mechanical parts beneath the painted panels. Plus, her ominous singing will give you goosebumps as it also warns you that she’s nearby.
7. Withered Bonnie

This one is interesting because it always gave off a kind of Terminator feeling with those two red beady eyes. And while he lacks a face of his own, Withered Bonnie definitely doesn’t seem to shy away from replacing it with yours, as evidenced by his FNaF 2 attack animation. And that’s the scariest part about him, seeing that mechanical arm reach forward at lightning speed to rip off the player’s face.
6. Circus Baby

Another entry from FNaF 5: Sister Location, Circus Baby was one of the most anticipated characters when the first teasers started doing the rounds. Her vocal lines still give you goosebumps as they reverberate and the line “Don’t use it against us” is repeated over and over. Probably the scariest aspect of Baby, however, is when her face splits open to reveal what’s underneath.
5. Shadow Bonnie

This character has officially had a different name since its introduction in FNaF 2. His real name is RWQFSFASXC, but nobody calls him that – everyone just accepted Shadow Bonnie. And while he’s not downright hostile, he’s a super creepy character because he’s just standing in a dark corner, outlined in black, with two big white eyes and rows of white teeth. And if you stare at him for too long, the game would crash, which can be worse than dying.
4. Night Marionne

Nightmarionne is the nightmare version of the puppet, which is sort of a dubious positive character. This is his dark mirror and the terrifying doll is just as scary as you can imagine with her horrible smile full of tiny sharp teeth. To make matters worse, Nightmarionne can attack from virtually anywhere, always leaving the player in the dark. And once you’ve met him, you can’t say deadpan that you expected him to have THAT voice.
3. Nightmare lacerations

The crown prince of decrepit, ruined animatronics, Nightmare Mangle first appeared in FNaF 4 as the nightmare version of Mangle from FNaF 2. It emits a loud roar of radio noise when it’s around, which is sure to scare you . And with bright gray-white and pink coloring, it looks the scariest of its nightmarish counterparts.
2. Spring trap

FNaF 3’s tragic animatronics, Springtrap, carry this game on its own. What sets it apart, aside from the backstory, are the movements, which are completely different from those of the other animatronics. They’re a little smoother and, dare we say, lifelike, which makes it all the worse to see him with his face ruined. And as for the backstory, you might get glimpses and clues to it if you manage to peek inside his mouth – but that means you’re probably dead already.
1. Nightmare

Nightmare, the super version of Nightmare Fredbear, rounds out our list with another character that first appeared in FNaF 4. What sets her apart is that Nightmare is pitch black and somewhat translucent, with only those two smoldering red eye sockets visible… and rows and rows of needle-sharp teeth. Just like Nightmarionne, he can attack from anywhere and on his own, making him even worse. Everything about him screams “danger and terror” and he more than lives up to the nickname “Malice Incarnate”.
