The 10 Rarest Items in The Elder Scrolls Online

Elder Scrolls Online is almost 10 years old, and like any live service game with loot, there are plenty of rare items to show off your wealth or age with. Unfortunately, many items on this list aren’t even available to a savvy market hound – but some can be bought and sold on the open market. If you have a surplus of gold and want to show it off, we have a list of the top 10 rarest items in The Elder Scrolls Online.

The rarest items you can find in The Elder Scrolls Online

Ethereal Cipher

Ethereal Ciphers are required to obtain the Mythic Ambrosia Ethereal Potion recipe. These potions give players a 150% XP boost for 30 minutes. These potions are valuable for all players, as even high-level players still need to collect champion points. Aetheric Ciphers drop from all non-DLC enemies, but the drop rate is low – which explains why the Aetheric Ciphers regularly sell for over 6,000,000 gold.

One of the rarest item sets in the game, Encasement of Anguish is no longer purchasable – its drop rate has been removed, but those who still own the armor set can trade it. Instead, the armor’s style has been changed to the Dark Seducer costume, which is available to any player upon reaching CP level 60.

Imgakin monkey

In The Elder Scrolls Online, pets are purely cosmetic companions available to any class. The rarest of these companions is the Imgakin Monkey, a pet only available to those who participated in The Elder Scrolls Online closed beta. Unfortunately, it is not tradable, so its price cannot be accurately estimated. However, it’s safe to say that it’s one of the rarest items in the game as only a limited number of players participated in the beta.

Jaedi and Lire Runestones

These are by far the rarest crafting materials in the game. They were immediately discontinued in 2014, weeks after launch. Originally, Lire runestones were used to craft weapon damage, a mechanic not available in the current game. Many players believe that the developers mistakenly left these runestones in the game because they don’t offer an enchanting experience when disassembled.

Little Gem of the Soul

Prior to Update 12 (the One Tamriel update), there were six different types of soul gems in the game. Each type had a level range, similar to mainline Elder Scrolls games like Skyrim. Now Soul Gems only come in one type; Small Soul Gems are extremely rare. Despite this rarity, however, they are only worth about 30,000 gold on the open market.

Radiant Apex mounts

Opening Crown Crates is the only way to acquire these incredibly rare mounts, loot crates purchased with real-world money. If you want one of these mounts, expect to spend a ridiculous amount of money as their drop rate is around 0.6% per chest. These mounts cannot be traded. So if you want a mount, you’ll have to wait for the mount to appear on certain banners and take your chances.

Runebox: Clockwork Reliquary

blank

This costume has a very low drop rate from enemies in the Asylum Sanctorium mini-trial. Notably, it only drops in Veteran mode in the Asylum Sanctorium, which requires a team of players to clear it and good luck to drop the item in the first place.

Runebox: Wooden Crow Wanderer Costume

blank

Wooden Crow Walker is a costume that players with 50 Siege of Cyrodiil Merit and a Siege of Cyrodiil Commendation can craft. What makes this costume rare is the limited availability of Siege of Cyrodiil Merits. You can only earn one merit per day, which means it will take at least 50 days to craft this costume.

true flame

This is by far the rarest weapon in the game. Like Jaedi and Lire Runestones, the developers most likely accidentally added this weapon to the game. At release, you could catch this item while fishing in Stonefalls. Since then the drop rate has been patched and the weapon cannot be traded. It has mediocre stats with a base damage of 168-1335 and 110-1428 flame damage.

Velothi Triptych, Volcano

blank

Elder Scrolls Online players know that weapons aren’t the only items worth collecting. Furniture brings life to your home in ESO, but paintings like the Velothi Triptych and Waterfall sell for massive amounts of gold. It earns its high price by having a meager drop rate in Vvardenfell containers. Since some time has passed since the Vvardenfell Chapter – and with it fewer players traveling through the zone – this item has become even rarer and is being sold on the open market for over 8,000,000 gold.
