‘That’s not the diamond I remember’: LisaRaye McCoy’s dance moves have fans wondering what happened to her ‘The Players Club’ groove

Lisa Raye McCoy Fans who met her in the ’90s may always recognize her as Diamond, the exotic dancer. The actress landed the unforgettable role in 1998’s The Players Club. Since then, the role has seemingly followed McCoy.

Even when she’s spotted letting her hair down and hitting the dance floor, McCoy’s fans can’t seem to help but find a way to mention her past sexy role. Such was the case when a video of McCoy – dressed all in white – dancing went online.

McCoy and her “Cocktails With Queens” co-hosts Claudia Jordan, Syleena Johnson, Vivica A. Fox and several others were recently in Jamaica to celebrate Fox’s 58th birthday. McCoy, 54, was just one of many who took to the dance floor to make a move.

“For me it’s the aunty moves lol,” commented one person, tickled by McCoy’s shuffle-like dance moves.

Another wrote: “I would have been out there with Aunty, cup in hand, not lying away… and yelling ‘lets gooooooo’.

“Lisaraye is such a vibe. She’s the aunt we all need at the BBQ,” wrote another social media user.

And, of course, there were a handful of people who took the opportunity to point out that McCoy’s moves couldn’t compare to those she made for the big screen over two decades ago. “That’s not the diamond I remember. Lol where are they going,” read one comment.

Others were, “Damn, Sho isn’t Diamond, but it’s enough,” “Well Diamond, you forgot your moves,” and at least a few people notice someone in the background. “The highlight of this video is the sister in the back twerking alone.”

McCoy has acted on several television shows and has had countless film roles since playing Diamond. But the actress has said in the past that escaping sexy roles has been a challenge. “When you’re playing such an iconic role that sees you as a sex symbol, you feel like you have to be sexy all the time,” she explained while appearing on the now-defunct talk show The Real.

She continued: “You play with what helped you make you, you know. So you tend to stay in those roles, other than they give me those kinds of roles, the woman next door, the con artist, this lover or whatever.”
