Texas WR Al’Vonte Woodard joins Horns roster in transfer portal

More movements coming to Texas Soccer program and new head coach Steve Sarkisian during the NCAA Transfer Portal on the night of November 30. In what could be a busy week and month, in the transfer portal for Sark and his coaching staff, the one The most recent name that will appear there is the former four-star player and the recipient of the generous red shirt Al’Vonte Woodard.

News that Woodard entered his name in the transfer portal on November 30 came from a Report from Horns247. This is the second wide receiver that the Longhorns have lost their handover port on in the past few weeks. Texas also lost widespread junior redshirt recipient Joshua Moore to the transfer portal last month.

Woodard’s loss first the transfer port is not surprising, in spite of. Texas looks like it will have some major roster attrition on the road in skill positions in preparation for next season, and Woodard doesn’t have much game time towards the end of the season.

While Woodard started to become more prominent last fall under former Texas head coach Tom Herman, his workload dwindles into 2021. He has just over 140 goals scored. last season, compared with 40 this fall.

Furthermore, Woodard hasn’t even been on the 2 depth standings for most of the season for the Longhorns. He was beaten by much younger wide receivers on the depth chart this fall. Woodard will certainly face an uphill battle if he wants more game time in 2022.

Woodard was one of the initial key recruits for Herman and his staff at Forty Acres. He may just be looking for a better fit elsewhere, where he can find more immediate play time and a larger role.

During his four years in Texas, Woodard registered just seven catches with 62 yards (8.9 yards per catch) and no touchdown hits. The most productive game of Woodard’s career came during the Longhorns’ dominant Alamo Bowl win back on December 29, 2020, against the Colorado Buffaloes. He had three 28-yard catches in the Alamo Bowl last season.

Woodard was originally one of the higher-rated players in the 2018 Longhorns recruitment. He was ranked as the nation’s 104th most promising high schooler of 2018, the nation’s 20th most widely received and 11 potential customers outside of Texas (General sports 247).

Out of Lamar High School around the Houston area, Woodard received offers from more than 30 schools. Finding a previous connection that could set the stage for where he would develop his talents next might not have been too difficult for Woodard.

Texas ended the 2021 season last week with a 5-7 (3-6 Big 12) record following a Black Friday win over the Kansas State Wildcats. There is bound to be a lot of roster attrition and activity in the upcoming season transfer portal for Sark and the Longhorns.
