Texas QB selects AFC North candidate

Houston Texans winger Deshaun Watson chose to force a trade with the… Cleveland Browns in a rather shocking turn of events.

The Browns are said to have missed Watson’s sweepstakes on a recent Thursday afternoon, when they returned to Baker Mayfield after defaming him in the media.

However, Watson changed his mind quite abruptly. With the Atlanta Falcons assuming they’ll land the next franchise quarterback – and contesting their current QB with Matt Ryan – Watson pulled the 180.

Watson wants to be a Cleveland Brown, if you can believe it.

What does this mean for Baker Mayfield?

Mayfield is certainly out of Cleveland, when he asks for a trade on Thursday. The Browns initially turned down that request, but suddenly they didn’t need the former No. 1 overall pick as the starting quarterback. Expect the QB carousel to resume when Watson is in Cleveland.

What happened to Deshaun Watson and the Falcons?

The Falcons have been seen like a clear favorite for Watson as recently as a few hours ago. For that to happen, there must have been surprising externalities that caused the former Texas QB to soon-to-be QB to move to Cleveland instead.

The Falcons willingly gave Watson the keys to the city, but that was not enough.

Contract Deshaun Watson

Watson is expected to negotiate a restructuring contract with whatever team he lands on, and the Browns will take him on that. Watson’s current salary is for 5 years and $230 million.

The AFC North is surprisingly full of midfielders – Watson, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson make up an incredible trio, while the Steelers fall behind thanks to the signing of Mitch Trubisky. Texas QB selects AFC North candidate
