Terrell Owens has live streamed the racial harassment from his bigoted neighbor

Former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens livestreamed a disturbing video showing a white woman calling the police after Owens approached her.

“You are a black man approaching a white woman!”

Although what led to this short video clip lacks a lot of context, that sentence gave a lot of context to the situation Terrell Owens found himself in while being streamed live on Instagram.

With blue and red police lights in the background, Owens described getting out of his vehicle to speak to a woman who was yelling at him about his driving.

Owens got out of the vehicle to speak to the woman and eventually the police were called.

For what exactly? Owens is confused when he’s accused of running a stop sign that… doesn’t exist.

The woman told police that she told Owens to slow down and he then parked and got out of his car, to which Owens replied: “Because you yell at me and tell me I almost hit you and I did.” not done!”

The woman said that Owens “harassed” her by approaching her, eventually blurting out that because Owens is a “black man approaching a white woman,” his actions seemed threatening.

Owens calls the woman a “Karen” and describes the situation as “unbelievable”.

“I swear to god I’ve never been a part of anything like this,” Owens said.

Owens posted a full one 11 minute video the encounter on Instagram.

Terrell Owens Live Streams Racist Neighbor Calling Him About…Leaving Police?

Though Owens is a Hall of Fame wide receiver with a storied NFL career, his celebrity doesn’t take away from the fact that he still faces racism and harassment.

Two months ago, Los Angeles Clippers Shooting Guard Norman Powell had a similar experience while working out at a gym in Las Vegas. Luckily in this situation, rather than having to charge Powell with a crime, the white woman who verbally abused him was arrested and taken away by the police.

Still, Powell was subject to the racism and bigotry that Owens also experienced, despite Owens having the added threat of being called by the police.

What makes Owen’s situation even more troubling is that the woman tried to justify her fear and decision to call the police by saying that a black man was accosting a white woman. This statement is rooted in a deep, violent history in which black men have been terrorized by the state and white communities for alleged crimes against white women.

Emmett Till was 14 when he was kidnapped, tortured and lynched for allegedly referencing a white woman. It was 1955. That March, President Joe Biden signed the Emmett-Till Anti-lynching Act into law, which designates lynching as a federal hate crime.

Though the brutal murder and lack of justice observed for Till’s death may seem decades away, it’s precisely why teenage Till was murdered.

Owens emerged from the situation unscathed, but a white woman whistling to see Owens being punished for approaching her continues a dangerous, racist precedent in the United States.
