Terence Crawford Beats Porter, Wants The Next Spence Boxing News 24

Via Dan Ambrose: Terence Crawford named Errol Spence Jr after successfully defending his WBO welterweight title Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Crawford, 34, had to play too much in the late game, and he took advantage of a weary Porter.

Crawford: Porter’s father did the right thing

“Shawn Porter, I can’t say anything bad about him,” Crawford said after the battle. “He was there with everyone, and he did what he could. I’m just a better man today.

“Round one,” Crawford said when asked WHEN he found Porter. “I thought I was able to get in, and he had to take advantage of the opportunity to get in.

“I’m a little bit stronger than him, and he’s just trying to do what he usually does. Maul and pushed me back. I used my corners and sometimes I managed to repel him as well.

“No, no, no,” Shawn Porter is a good fighter. He’s doing some slick stuff in there. Yeah, sure,” Crawford said when asked if he knew the fight would end soon after he knocked out Porter for the first time in round 10.

“I caught him with a super strike, and then when I caught him with another left hook I saw on his face that he was really hurt. He did the right thing by stopping it because I was coming for revenge,” Crawford said.

Kenny knows what kind of training camp Porter had, and if he was indeed beaten by Gervonta Davis while camping, it makes perfect sense that his father Kenny stopped the fight.

Crawford reacts when Spence joins his battle

“Was he in my fight?” Crawford said when informed that Errol Spence Jr. joined his fight. “That point said he was never going to be in my matches and now he is in my games.

“You saw what I did versus what I said,” said Crawford, comparing the Porter round 10 knockout to Spence’s decisive 12th round win over Shawn in September 2019.

“My problem is, who’s number one in the welterweight division now? You already know who I want. I’ve been calling him all day. Maybe I’ll go up to 154. Maybe Spence will pull his tail off his ass and he’ll fight me.

“Style makes for fights,” Crawford said when asked if that means he can knock Porter down while Spence can’t. “I look at all of us. We’re all great, we’re all talented and we all have different styles,” says Crawford.

The magic question is why Errol Spence Jr didn’t call Crawford after the game. Did Spence just enter the fight on Saturday hoping that Porter would win? It certainly seems so.

Porter has asked Spence to rematch since losing to him in September 2019.

“He won and I won [against Porter]. I just look at it as if, no matter how the war ends, as long as you win is all that matters.

“I love him. Shawn Porter is a real good friend of mine,” Crawford said when asked what he said to Porter after the game. I told him I really didn’t want to fight him.

“We always say we will fight each other when the time is right and I guess the right time for this fight to happen.

“I was looking to play against other champions in the league, and since I couldn’t get there, I had to do the next best thing,” Crawford said of the fight with Porter.

“It was good that Crawford spoke to Porter after the battle because hopefully there was no bad blood on his part. Given the way Porter took off right after the post-match interview, that leaves you wondering.
