Temple vs. Houston Prediction and Odds (Are the Cougars too focused on their next game to cover this one?)

The No. 14 Houston Cougars have already secured the AAC regular season and are ready to rock in the postseason. It was the Cougars’ third AAC championship in the past four years, ending the year 25-4.

The Cougars took a tumble recently, losing back-to-back games to SMU and Memphis, but have recovered well and are on a five-game winning streak. With two games remaining, Houston is hoping to earn a better NCAA tournament spot by beating Temple tonight and Memphis over the weekend.

Temple, on the other hand, serves the role of sacrificial lamb here and is a 16-point street dog in this conference fight. While the Owls managed to keep Houston close and covered earlier in the year, these two teams are very different from when they last met.

Here are the odds for that likely AAC blowout, courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook.

money line:

In total: 132 (above -110/below -110)

On any normal night, I’d say Houston easily covers that range and continues to roll toward the NCAA tournament. However, this falls within the classic look-ahead game scenario with an upcoming game against Memphis.

This is great for a number of reasons. The first is the fact that Houston lost 69-59 at home to Memphis earlier in the season. This game will be on the go for the cougars. Another factor here is that if Memphis remains seeded for two or three, these two teams are likely to meet again in the conference tournament.

Well, I’m not suggesting that Houston lose this game because they’re focused on beating Memphis. But it’s a good reason to fade them tonight with such a wide spread.

Lean: Temple +16 (-110)
