Tech odds and predictions between Texas vs. Texas (The Nation’s Top Two Defensive Teams Clash in Conference Action)

Tuesday night brought us one of the best shows in Big 12 basketball as the Texas Tech Red Raiders 14 played the Texas Longhorns 23 at the United Supermarket Arena. If you have time to watch just one game tonight, make it this one. The students have camped out at the stadium for days to watch this game and I don’t expect the teams to be disappointed.

The two interstate rivals entered Tuesday night with an identical 16-5 overall record and both were 5-3 in the conference game. Okay, they’re in third place in the Big 12 heading into this all-important showdown.

Here are the odds for this long-running Big 12 brawl, backed by WynnBET Sportsbook.

The Longhorns are now in tears and looking for a fourth straight win after picking up a three-game losing streak late last month. Their most impressive win in that period was against the 18th Tennessee Volunteers Team in the 12/SEC Grand Challenge this past weekend. It was indeed their most impressive win of the season and the first against a ranked team after defeats to Iowa State and Gonzaga earlier in the year. However, don’t be fooled into thinking all is well for the Longhorns this year. They have seen big goal droughts in between matches that cost them dearly. A big reason for this is that the team with no offense can take over the game. Without a real number one scoring option, the occasional offense looks sharp. It’s no surprise to see the Longhorns committing offenses coming in at 213th nationally in overall score. Luckily for them, they have the number 1 defense in the country. With an average of just 54.5 points per game, they are a disappointing team to try to score.

But, the Red Raiders have a better offensive play than the Longhorns are used to and are ranked 60th nationally in scoring. They’re 14th in two-point range and 23rd in overall shot rate. In addition to strong offensive ability, they have a defense in the top 15 and only let the opponent can attack more than 60 PPG.

While I appreciate the defensive stats Longhorn has to offer, their attack is too inefficient to keep up with the Red Raiders. I think Tech soon leads and continues to win and rise in this important conference showdown.

Pick: Texas Tech -4.5 (-110)
