Tears of the Kingdom – How to complete the Mayan shrine in TotK

Tears of the Kingdom’s Shrines offers the best puzzle of any Zelda game. Everything feels so fresh and refined that in some cases players don’t even manage to build a bridge to get out of trouble. Nowhere is this more true than at the Mayachin Shrine, also known as “A Fixed Device”. So we’ve put together this guide showing where to find it and how to solve the puzzle it contains.

Where to find the Mayan shrine/fixed device in Tears of the Kingdom

The Mayachin Shrine is located in the middle of the Hyrule Field region at map coordinates -0706, -0868, 0031. The best way to get there is to fast travel to the Hyrule Field Skyview Tower and head northeast. The shrine is very close to this Skyview Tower, but Link needs to move fast or he’ll be forced to fight the monster camp that has set up there. These monsters always appear when a blood moon rises, so they are often unavoidable.
How to complete the Mayan shrine in Tears of the Kingdom

There are two puzzles in the Mayachin Shrine that Link must solve if players want to get the bonus chest from the shrine and reach the exit. After Link uses the rotating platform to climb to the main body of the shrine, he must use Ultrahand to take the platform with him. This is used in one of the solutions required to complete the shrine. Before Link can do anything else, he must step onto the button next to the orange glowing switch. This will circle a target that Link must deflect the ball towards.
How to hit the target on the left in the Mayachin shrine

The first solution to the Mayachin shrine that opens the exit can be seen in the image above. In this main area, Link must use the Javelin Zonai Devices, which can sink into a surface to attach himself and form a base to build on. This mechanism spins quickly when Link flips the glowing orange switch above it, meaning he can launch the balls at the target at great speed if timed correctly.
For this solution we attached a Zonai spear to the mechanism and then attached one of the long poles to it to make it look like a baseball bat. We used a second Zonai Javelin further up the baseball bat to deflect the ball onto it. Finally, we used the platform Link had traversed earlier to slow the orb as it fell from its source. This slowed the ball so we could see when to flip the switch, spin the baseball bat, and throw the ball up the ramp and toward the target. The target turns green when the ball hits it.
How to hit the target on the right in the Mayachin shrine

After the target on the left turns green, a target will appear on the right side of the room. Hitting it with the ball will open the second gate, allowing Link to reach the chest behind it. Before players find a solution, they must use a Zonai Spear to pin the hanging slab on the right side of the room to the top of the block above. This clears the path for the ball.

The second solution for the Mayachin Shrine can be seen in the image above. Link has to wait for the orb to continue rolling down the slope and hit her just as she’s about to fall off the ledge, which we did several times trying to build this shrine. If you have the right timing, the bullet will hit the target and open the second gate.
Finally, once both targets are properly hit, Link can exit the shrine with the satisfaction of never having to return. This is one of the hardest puzzles we’ve encountered in the game during our playthrough and we were glad to see the solution after an hour of trying to solve it.
