Taylor Swift gave fans an early glimpse of the music videos for her tenth album, Midnights, in a teaser trailer during Thursday Night Football.
“I just wanted to first of all thank Amazon so much for giving me the opportunity to show you guys a first teaser trailer of the secret projects I’ve been working on for a really long time,” Swift said in a message at the beginning of the teaser . “These projects are the ‘Midnights’ music films, the music videos I made for this album to visually explore the world of this record. And I love telling stories, I love songwriting, I love writing videos, I love directing them. And this was a really fun opportunity to work again with cinematographer Rina Yang, who was my collaborator on the 10 minute short All Too Well. So this time we really wanted to challenge ourselves to do different things and stretch and I’m really proud of what we’ve done and I really hope you enjoy it. We’ve worked with some great actors who you’ll learn more about at the end of the teaser trailer.”
Actors named include album producer Jack Antonoff, Laith Ashley, Mike Birbiglia, Laura Dern, John Early, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Alana Haim, Danielle Haim, Este Haim, Pat McGrath and Dita Von Teese. However, the teaser itself mostly featured Swift with a plethora of colorful looks ranging from a 1920s-inspired flapper dress to a sparkly cape and a Marie-Antoinette-esque outfit.
Earlier Thursday, in a video posted to Twitter at 9:13 p.m. ET (coincidence?), Swift said, “Hey guys, it’s Taylor. If you tune in to Thursday night’s soccer game on Amazon Prime, I’ll show you a first look at the secret projects I’ve been working very hard on for a very long time to prepare for the Midnights album.”
Last month, Swift teased the song titles of “Midnights,” which she describes as “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.” Earlier Thursday, detective fans discovered that Swift even teased a lyric from the album five months ago while delivering a speech at NYU. In her remarks, Swift said, “We’re going to breathe in, take a deep breath, breathe in, breathe out,” before joking, “And I’m a doctor now, so I know how breathing works.”
Now, Spotify billboards promoting “Midnight,” spotted around the world in cities like Nashville, Tennessee, and São Paulo, Brazil, are saying, “Breathe in, breathe, breathe deep, breathe out.”
When Swift revealed all the song titles earlier this month, he announced that Lana Del Rey will be featured on track 4, entitled “Snow on the Beach.” Swift wrote of the cameo on Instagram, “PRETTY a twist of an ending.”
Despite teasing the album for nearly two months, Swift did not release a single for the album. Midnights is out on October 21st.
