Taylor Swift Confirms Jack Antonoff As Producer For Midnights Album

Jack Antonoff, who has produced some of Taylor Swift’s most popular songs from “Out of the Woods” to “Lover,” and shared her 2020 Album of the Year Grammy for “Folklore,” returns for her upcoming album, Midnights. will be released on October 21st.

Antonoff appears prominently in a new behind-the-scenes video posted to Swift’s Instagram, captioned: “The Making of ‘Midnights’.” In the clip, the couple can be seen in Antonoff’s studio on the music for Swifts next record working and playing keyboards and MIDI controllers while Swift edits vocal recordings.

An uncredited snippet of a song with the lyrics “It’s just the life you lead, but it’s yours” accompanies the video, but it’s unclear if this is original material that’s being teased as the voices appear to be male. Meanwhile, a shot of Swift walking through a snowstorm indicates that she and her co-pilot have been working on “Midnights” for a while. Another clip shows test pressings of different colored records, presumably the ones Swift had for a limited time on sale in their web store over Labor Day weekend.

While details on “Midnights” are limited, Swift announced she would be releasing a new album during her highlight speech at the MTV Video Music Awards last month while accepting an award for Video of the Year. At 12 p.m. ET that evening, the singer-songwriter revealed the album’s title and design. There will be 13 tracks, but the song titles have not yet been released. Earlier this week, the Target chain announced they would be exclusively offering a CD edition with three bonus tracks – again without a title release (although two of the three will be remixes).

Antonoff began working with Swift on 2014’s 1989 album and has since been a close collaborator on all of their many releases, including the bonus material on their re-recorded “Taylor’s Versions” of their previous albums Fearless and Red. ” One of the most active and successful producers of the past decade, he has also worked extensively with Lana Del Rey, St. Vincent, Lorde, the Chicks, Clairo and others, and fronted his own band, the Bleachers.

Antonoff shared production duties with Aaron Dessner on Swift’s last two albums of brand new material, Folklore and Evermore. But Antonoff’s sole presence in the new making-of video seems to raise the possibility that he could be the sole co-producer of “Midnights.”
