In the third match against the Devil, Point seemed to benefit his left shoulder/arm area after slamming into the end board after tripping. Point was awarded a penalty after the breach, and his effort touched the New Jersey goalkeeper Mackenzie BlackwoodHis shoulder bounced off the crossbar. He was able to end the game, sealing a 5-3 win for the Reds.
Point, a veteran scorer in the league that has become a traditional Tampa Bay playoff, had 14 NHL-best goals since last season. It was the second consecutive season he topped the NHL in post-season goals.
Tampa Bay was missing the right-wing star Nikita Kucherov, who is not expected to return for another four to six weeks as he recovers from a lower body injury.
The Lightning, without Kucherov last season, is no stranger to injuries and clearly has the depth to compete in the Eastern Conference. But with Point’s seven goals and 13 points, not to mention even 20:00 on the ice, it will be difficult to replace those veteran minutes, in exceptional teams and even at power.
Tampa Bay, which plays host to Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night, going into the game 10-4-3 and in third place in the Atlantic Division.
