Sydney train delays due to industrial action set to end as NSW government and union reach agreement

Sydney commuters are expected to enjoy the end of industrial action-related disruptions after the NSW Government and railway union reached an agreement.

The state government and railway workers, who have been fighting over wages and safety issues for a fleet of new inner-city trains for two years, finally reached an agreement on Friday evening.

The dispute had prompted repeated industrial action by the union, causing disruptions and delays across the Sydney network.

Travel on Sydney trains had been made free this week as the government tried to avoid further industrial action.

The impasse has largely been attributed to rail workers’ safety concerns at the new Intercity fleet, as well as wage demands.

The members of the Combined Rail Unions are now to vote on the agreement.

The unions have agreed to put all industrial action on hold before the vote.
