Sydney Thunder set world record low in BBL. Sydney Thunder bowled against Adelaide Strikers for just 15 runs.

The Sydney Thunder have the lowest total in BBL history with just 15 runs to give the Adelaide Strikers the easiest win at Showground Stadium.

The Thunder appeared to be in control after limiting the Strikers to 9-139. But they were then bowled with just a paltry 35 balls to fall well short of the previous record low of 57.

Henry Thornton (5-3) and Wes Agar (4-6) raged as the Thunder lagged 6-9 on the power play.

Adelaide’s two marquee bowlers, Peter Siddle and Rashid Khan, didn’t even have to bowl.

Fast specialist Brendan Doggett was the top scorer for the Thunder with just four runs, scoring from the only margin of an inning that lasted less than 40 minutes.

The Strikers found success again, starting their innings with spinner Matt Short, who fended off Matthew Gilkes with a long ball that the opener hit on the point. It was Gilke’s second duck from as many balls in the tournament, but the Strikers were just getting started.

Short took an early contender for the tournament’s catch by jumping into the slips to grab Rilee Rossouw with one hand to sack Rilee Rossouw, whose three runs made him the all-time batters’ top scorer.

Thornton had captain Jason Sangha just two balls later as second of five ducks.

After a demoralizing inning with the potential to ruin a season, the Thunder needs some serious soul searching.

Earlier, after the Thunder lost the toss and then got fielded, the Thunder watched as Chris Lynn and Colin de Grandhomme forged a 66-run partnership for the only real highlight of the Strikers’ modest 9-139 innings.

But Thunder’s efforts made the Strikers look like world champions and the latter are now 2-0.

As the last wicket fell, the Seven commentary team said they were “speechless”.

“It’s all over! It’s all over…Lowest score ever by a senior T20 level team anywhere in the world.

“It’s not the record the Sydney Thunder want in exchange for their name. It was a phenomenal night if you are an Adelaide Strikers.

“We are almost speechless … We are speechless.”
