Lade’s interest comes after a number of experienced candidates dropped out of the running.

Former Fremantle and St Kilda manager Ross Lyon took just 90 minutes to tell the Bombers he was not interested in going through the process, while ex-Giants manager Leon Cameron opted to sign Sydney as the new one to join the coaching director for the academy.

Melbourne senior assistant coach Adem Yze remains the front runner, while Don Pyke and Dean Solomon are also in the running and former coach and club legend James Hird remains in the frame.

7NEWS reporter Tom Browne has reported that former North Melbourne coach and current AFL football chief of operations Brad Scott is also being probed.

The Bombers have been looking for a new manager since they sacked Ben Rutten after the club’s last game of the season after the failure of legendary manager Alastair Clarkson, who opted for North Melbourne.

Lade jumped straight into coaching after ending his 234-player career at Port Adelaide in 2009.

He spent seven seasons at Richmond before departing in late 2016 to join the Power.

After two seasons at Port Adelaide, he returned to Victoria to join the Saints, where he has been since 2018.

He was the club’s reserve manager in round five as St Kilda beat Gold Coast by 26 points.
