Surprise competitor emerges in early market

The Atlanta Falcons have emerged as a potential contender for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. This is a surprise to say the least.

The Falcons traded Matt Ryan earlier this offseason, sending him to the Indianapolis Colts, who also participated in the quarterback carousel by selling Carson Wentz to Washington. can you keep up

Garopolo is expected to be the last piece of this offseason puzzle. The 49ers are progressing with Trey Lance as the undisputed starter. Garoppolo has proven that if he’s healthy and surrounded by the right offense and talent, he’s good enough to lead a team to the playoffs. However, when it comes to making that big hit, something is missing.

Are the Falcons really a winning situation for him?

Honestly if Garoppolo wants to start, it does not matter. He’ll take any gig he can get at that point.

NFL Rumors: Falcons Play for Jimmy Garoppolo

Jimmy G is a decent starting quarterback at this point in his career, but is he an asset as the Falcons rebuild? When Atlanta traded Ryan away, they took a step back. Whatever intermediate phase follows will probably not be a successful one.

A look at Atlanta’s depth chart suggests Garoppolo would be the front runner to start, or at least in a fight for that with Marcus Mariota. Not to mention Desmond Ridder, who is poised to be the quarterback of the future.

Setting it back another year or maybe more by making it the third string feels like the wrong approach.

With Garoppolo under center, could the Falcons win two more games, maybe even three more? There’s an argument to be made, sure. But they’re a mediocre team at best in a division owned by Tom Brady for the time being.

All Garoppolo adds is the salary.
