Ever since the Super Mario Bros. movie was announced, we’ve had questions, mostly about how the movie would look and sound. This week we’ll finally see and hear it in action.
A teaser trailer aired earlier this week during New York Comic Con 2022, but according to Nintendo Twitter account, we also get a direct-to-film focused broadcast. The presentation will air Thursday, October 6 at 4:05 p.m. ET / 1:05 a.m. PT. You can watch five minutes early on the NYCC website or at the scheduled time on Nintendo’s YouTube channel. It’s not clear how long the Direct itself will last; If it only contains the movie trailer, it won’t take more than a few minutes. If there is other important information, it will take a little longer to transfer. One thing is for sure, this Direct will “not show any game information”.
At this point, we already know quite a bit about the Super Mario Bros. movie. The voice actor list is quite extensive, including Anya Taylor-Joy (That Queen’s Gambit) as Peach, Charlie Day (it’s always sunny in Philadelphia) as Luigi, Keegan Michael Key (key and peele) as a toad and more. Mario himself is spoken by Parks and Recreation and Guardians of the Galaxy alum Chris Pratt, and we’ve been especially waiting to hear his voice.
The film’s final release date hits theaters on April 7, 2023. It was originally supposed to be released this year, but it was pushed back to 2023. While we’re waiting to see the trailer for the past few days, we can get a good sense of the art direction from the promo image above – the material of the denim outfit and wool hat is quite detailed.
Mario Bros. is coming next year, but there are more video game movies in the works. Beyond Good & Evil, BioShock, Borderlands and more are in various stages of production with no release date.
