Sunrise’s Matt Doran stuns co-host Monique Wright with an ‘epic’ Barack Obama prank interview

Weekend Sunrise host Monique Wright fell for the ultimate prank of her co-host, who convinced her the show was an interview with former US President Barack Obama.

Standing proudly alongside co-host Matt Doran, the journalist believed she was really speaking to the 44th President of the United States, who had traveled to Sydney on a speaking tour.

But in reality she was talking to an impersonator from the USA named Reggie.

To make the elaborate April Fool’s joke as believable as possible, the Sunrise team told Monique that they secured the “interview” at the last minute.

Techs even distorted the resolution on the TV monitor that Matt and Monique were talking to “Obama” about.

“We knew Mon would be too tense, so we had to give Reggie all the help he could get,” Matt said before the “interview.”

“Mr Obama, what an absolute thrill to have you in the country,” Monique began.

Closing the interview, she said, “Gosh, we love you here and it was amazing to have you on our program.

“Thank you, safe journey home.”

Once the interview was over, the gig was over – Matt now had to break the news to Monique.

“Just before we let you go…” Matt began, addressing “Obama.”

He continued nervously, “…Maybe it would be a good time to just let Mon know that we are indeed speaking to Reggie from LA, who is the best Obama impersonator in the world.

“Hello, Reggie! how are you buddy That was flawless.”

A stunned Monique said: “Reggie they actually used a monitor that looks very strange, I can’t see you properly… I blame technical issues and the extraordinary behavior of… not only you but the whole team. ”

“Reggie doesn’t buy the technical issues as an excuse,” Matt said when pointing out why Monique hadn’t noticed sooner.

“I hate you, I was so excited!” Monique said to Matt and the Sunrise crew backstage.

“I ran down two minutes early to change, so I want to apologize to Chrissy, the producer, who saw me in my underwear. I’m very sorry.

“I hate you all, but I hate you most,” she said, pointing at Matt.

After the teasing, Matt shared the video on his social media and thanked his “evil support team” for helping pull the prank off.

“This is TV 😂😂 @mattdoran22,” wrote Morning Show host Larry Emdur.

“Did it,” said former Seven presenter Sally Obermeder.

“Karma Matt fear fear ’cause Mon will make you big when you least expect it,” said one fan.

“Oh Matt. That was epic. I can hear Mon’s brain ticking now,” said a second.

“This is gold 👏👏😂😂😂,” added another.
