While co-host Kochie Nat was quick to tease Nat about the debacle, The Morning Show host Kylie Gillies admitted that she too has struggled with recycling.

“Okay, we gotta go fast, Nat’s in trouble,” Kochie told viewers at the end of Wednesday’s show.

Nat shook her head, adding that she “literally just got a text, an angry text on our family chat” from her husband.

The host shared that while Drew and her son Hunter understand the recycling rules, they are struggling.

“Go home and fix it!” Kochie told her.

“I’m sorry who’s picking up our bins today. We stuff the recycling all the time. It’s an ongoing family thing,” laughed Nat.

“We’re always in trouble with my husband, sorry.

“Ah, let’s go to the morning show while I get my personal life in order.”

TMS host Kylie Gillies rushed to defend her friend, agreeing that “you need a college degree to understand recycling at work here”.

“I am very confused.”

Co-host Matt Doran confirmed this point, adding that “it’s all very mysterious.”

Laughing, Kylie said, “It’s not just me.”

“I agree, Kylie,” Nat told her.

“It’s labeled very specifically,” Matt noted as the hosts joked about their confusion.

The on-air moment comes at a time when Sunrise is going through a period of transition after veteran presenter Kochie announced he is stepping down from Friday 9 June.

Kochie made the bombastic announcement live on the show on Monday, telling fans he was quitting “the best job in the world.”

The star’s voice broke as he told viewers, “Thanks for being there.”

He will step down as the longest-serving breakfast TV presenter in Australian history after broadcasting a record 16,000 hours of live TV across more than 5,300 shows and around 50,000 interviews.

“I have enjoyed every minute of my time at Sunrise and am incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the past 21 years,” Kochie said in a statement.

“I’ve been privileged to experience so many adventures, meet so many incredible people, and document so many moments of the story as it unfolds. It really is the best job in the world.

“What I will miss the most is working with the amazing Sunrise team, especially Nat, Beretts and Dave Walters who were with me pretty much the entire time on the show.

“I will miss it tremendously”

“I think I’ve spent more time with them than with my family and it’s been a great pleasure. I will miss the Sunrise viewers who energized me every day.

“I also appreciate the support of the Seven Network, from Chairman on down, for allowing me to be myself, for their understanding when I constipate – which is more common than I’d like to admit – and for their understanding of constants Encouragement and respect,” he continued.

“I know I will miss it dearly but it is time I worked business hours and for Libby and I to have some more flexibility to enjoy our growing family, to travel and focus on our family business interests in Pinstripe to focus media and the business channel Ausbiz.

“Being Australia’s most-watched breakfast show for the 20th year running is a beautiful moment to leave the stage with a tremendous sense of pride and gratitude. Thank you for the privilege,” Kochie said.

The Seven Network will announce Kochie’s replacement on Monday 5 June.
