Sunrise host Monique Wright bravely continues the news coverage as the live segment goes awry

Monique Wright was always the pro when a Sunrise segment took a hilarious turn.

The Weekend Sunrise co-host, who was filling in for Nat Barr on Thursday, was thrown to the ground by Mark Beretta, who was wearing a sumo suit – but she bravely continued to read her instructions.

Celebrating Thursday night’s Sumo Suit Championship in Sydney, two handpicked contestants, Lee and Amy, battled it out on the Sunrise stage.

After Amy lost the first round, it was her job to take on Sunrise’s sumo wrestler Mark Beretta, who had adorned his bright yellow suit with a Socceroos scarf.

Amy stepped on the padded floor, defeating Beretts and throwing it to the ground.

As Monique left to explain the details of sumo wrestling night, she bent down to offer Beretts a hand.

“Don’t give him a hand!” Kochie cried out – a little too late.

Mon and a crew member were both thrown to the ground, with the presenter falling awkwardly onto Beretts, who was lying underneath in his sumo suit.

Struggling to stay somewhat upright, Mon tried to wrap the segment up further and managed to get out: “We’ve got some more breaking news this morning.”

‘Smash’

“Australia is playing Argentina in the round of 16 of the World Cup,” she said, laughing.

Kochie then stepped in to help his colleague do the closing dialogue as Mon tried to get off the floor.

The hilarious video was later posted to Sunrise social media, where viewers praised Mon’s professionalism during the off-script moment.

“CUT DOWN! Berett’s sumo hilariously slammed Mon as she bravely continued to deliver a news update!” said the post.

“Too funny 😂❤️,” said several commenters.

“Well done,” added another.
