We didn’t really most viewed 6 . street fighter when it was revealed yesterdaybut one thing we did look at was the game’s logo and I don’t think we could get to the point where fans (yes!) question the new game’s logo in the absence of any What is more to complain about?but here we are.
Street Fighter Not only is it one of the most popular video game series of all time, its logo is also one of the greatest of all time, perfectly representing the setting and style of the game. That martial artsy, versatile font has become as iconic as any character from the series, and as you can see in the image below, from the first game’s release in 1987 to 2016. V street fighter Capcom maintains a clear sense of continuity, linking each new game to the last:
Now let’s look at 6 . street fighter and… oh.
That nice, easy-to-understand font is gone, replaced by something that looks like the logo of a studio that was forced to play a supporting role on the web. Call of Duty game for the rest of its life. The Roman numerals are also gone, replaced by the basic “6”. And the game’s logo itself is just… a big SF letter?
It looks bad. As bad as the coffee roaster just advertised on Instagram. As bad as a company that makes cheap uniforms for social sports teams. As bad, as good:
But wait, it’s getting worse. Equal Ars Technica’s Aurich Lawson shownNot only does the large “SF” part of the logo look like clipart, it looks like a very specific piece of clipart, available for $80 on the Adobe stock website:
Sure, there are a few changes made, like softer corners in some corners and thinner bezels, but overall they are extremely alike. Here they are side by side for comparison:
