Streaming Dr Disrespect playing chess leads to Twitch ban

Popular chess streamer and grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura thought it would be okay for Dr. Watching Disrespect play chess on Twitch. He was wrong it seems.

The five-time US champion is a chess prodigy and one of the best in the world. At the age of ten he was then the youngest American to beat an International Master. At 13, he was also the youngest American to be awarded the title of grandmaster. His now-banned Twitch channel offers an in-depth but accessible take on chess.

“Today I got banned from Twitch for showing some chess games recently played between Dr. Disrespect and Dr. Lupo were played on YouTube,” Nakamura said on Youtube.

As of this writing, Nakamura’s Twitch channel has the following ban notice.

While the ban is on for only three daysseems the timing with the particularly deplorable FIDE Grand Prix Chess Tournaments On the way. According to Nakamura, he was under the impression that the tweet meant the permaban no longer existed. “Well, wrongly at the time, I assumed that because Dr. solved his problems with Twitch, there would be no problem showing that on my stream,” he said on Youtube. “As it turns out, Dr. still banned and apparently only related to legal issues.”

Twitter replies to Nakamura’s ban announcement read: Twitch Streamer Asmongold interfered that the ban seemed strange because other Twitch streamers, including himself, were reacting to the Dr. Disrespect’s game studio and NFTs had responded. “The rules are clearly not black and white and three days without understanding an unspoken nuance seems unfair,” tweeted Asmongold.

On YouTube, Nakamura stressed that the ban was only temporary. “This is in no way permanent. And while it’s unfortunate, it happened and I look forward to returning to Twitch as soon as possible.”
