A new trailer for stranger things 4 came out this week and gave us an exciting glimpse into the crazy, terrifying things this next chapter of the story will bring. This includes the unveiling of a creepy, monstrous new big bad villain.

The Duffer brothers recently covered this new villain named Vecna, and it was inspired by her love for iconic horror characters like Freddie Kruger, Pinhead, and Pennywise. Ross Duffer said in an interview with IGN, “Those were the monsters that really inspired us this season.”

He went on to say that they used practical effects to bring this nightmarish creature into a position where the actors could actually react to it: “What you see here is 90% practical [effects]. And Vecna is 90% practical all season long. We wanted a presence on set that our actors could respond to, as in Season 3 they responded to a beach ball. We wanted something that we could actually film and I think that makes this villain more scary and more real and more tangible and we’re really excited for people to see him this season.”

I love that! You may also be interested to know that the villain shares his name with another Vecna from dungeons. It’s not yet clear if the name is just an Easter egg or if there’s something deeper, though stranger things definitely sticks to its D&D roots.
