Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin entered the UK boxing chart at number eight upon its release. While the Team Ninja-developed action spin-off failed to sell enough copies to make the top 5, publisher Square Enix should be pleased that it’s in the top 10, especially considering digital sales aren’t in included on the physical charts .
Thanks to GI.biz, we know that “73% of Stranger of Paradise box sales” were on PS5, 18% on PS4, and 9% on Xbox. We don’t know exactly how many physical copies of the game sold in the UK over its opening weekend, but as a niche contender that didn’t make too much of a fuss about its release, Stranger of Paradise performed admirably.
Last week’s other new game release, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, debuted in tenth place, with the majority of players picking up the game on PS4. Gran Turismo 7 maintained its top spot for the third straight week, beating out competition from Elden Ring (which has already sold 12 million copies) in second place and WWE 2K22, which has done well in the UK so far, in third place place through.
The rest of the top ten is dominated by Switch games, with Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl rejoining the top ten in fifth and ninth place respectively. Curiously, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe missed out on a top ten finish this week and suffered a “sales decline of 20% week-on-week.” This is despite the introduction of the Booster Course Pass DLC.
