Strange facts about Australia: Canadian TikTok tourist ‘shocked he’s still alive’ after revealing Australian culture

A Canadian tourist is stunned by Australia’s party culture after a fun-filled time at the world-famous Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
Chris Zou was expecting a good night’s sleep after attending the Oxford Street celebrations on February 25, but was shocked when the party continued the next day.

Zou considers a “pretty wild night” from 11pm to 5am but says Mardi Gras – which coincided with Sydney World Pride this year – is “not just a normal party”.
“I’m honestly shocked I’m still alive because you my buddies didn’t warn me about Mardi Gras,” he said in a video on TikTok.
The exhausted visitor told in detail about his restless night – and day.
“Here, no, no, no, no, you have a pre-party at someone’s house and then you have a daytime party that starts at 2 or 3 p.m.,” he said.
“And then it ends at 10pm and I’m like, ‘Oh great, now I can go home and go to bed early’.”
“No, no, no, after that you have a night party that starts from 10pm until about 5am.”
Zou then participated in “Kick-Ons”.
“And then there’s an after-party at someone’s house that ends at about 9 a.m.,” he said.
But that’s not all, because he then had “brunch.”
“When the hell do these people sleep?” he asked.
Zou explained to his 197,000 followers that he “made a mistake planning this trip”.
“When I saw that Sydney was hosting World Pride, I was like, ‘Oh, why don’t we just come a week early and see Mardi Gras too,'” he said.
The extended stay meant the tourist would experience another weekend of partying and sleepless nights.
“Apparently all Australians outside of Sydney knew about it because they’re all running away from the city. Now they all go home and check out of our hotel,” he explained.
“But my friends and I are stuck here for another weekend because of World Pride.”
Zou rubbed his face and let out an exhausted cry as he told his fans, “I don’t know if I have that much pride left in me.”
“After this trip I don’t know if I will be gay.”
Australians flocked to the post to offer Zou tips on what he could do to keep up with the partygoers.
“Drink and take a nap. This is marathon party. You can do this,” wrote one helpful TikTok user.
Another suggested Zou “sleep after brunch.”
But that sparked a reaction from another Australian, who said: “No, lawn bowls are coming after brunch. Then you can take a nap before you start again.”
One was exhausted just watching Zou’s video.
“It sounds amazing but I’m going to take a nap after hearing how exhausted you are,” one person wrote.
