Soderbergh said he’s calling scenes from “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” – and still wants to make a movie in theaters despite the slated HBO Max launch.
Dance on demand? It sounds a bit familiar to “Magic Mike”.
Manager Steven Soderbergh says that the third – and probably final – movie “Magic Mike” was at his urging.
“This third installment was made at my request,” said Soderbergh, who did not direct the “Magic Mike XXL” sequel. People who like strong feelings. “I am the one who said, ‘I want to do this, and this is what I want to do.’
Star and co-creator Channing Tatum previously admitted Diversity that he’s not interested in reprising his former stripper role, especially after “Magic Mike LiveAnd a four-year hiatus from acting. “I don’t want to,” Tatum said. “My live show is the third show. We ate all of that meat – no pun intended. ”
While Soderbergh is developing his own Broadway musical “Magic Mike,” he has previously said that he was inspired by the live show’s theme of deconstruction women’s wishes. “I said we have to make another movie,” Soderbergh remember. “I know exactly what it is!”
Thus, “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” was born.
“Conversations with Channing about this universe are more complicated than the typical actor, director, filmmaker relationship because we created the whole thing together,” Soderbergh added to Thrillist. “I can’t just tell him what to do because he created it with me. It was a conversation. I can say, ‘This is what I want to achieve,’ and he will say, ‘Oh, I like that,’ or he will say, “Oh, what if X?” I can’t get him stuck, and he can’t get me stuck. Except I don’t know what a sexy dance looks like.”
“Magic Mike’s Last Dance” is slated to premiere on HBO Max, but Soderbergh is still waiting for a movie to hit theaters.
“I think if I could do what we were thinking, I know they would look into it and see that it has theatrical potential,” said “Kimi” director. “There is nothing to say that you cannot reverse the sequence. If the movie works really, really well on the platform, do a limited 25-city tour in theaters. Nothing says you can’t do it”.
Soderbergh added, “Let’s release GuyMAX and put it on a giant screen.”
