New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom wasted no time in recovering from his injury, which is paying off. Mets owner Steve Cohen has made it clear that keeping him is a priority.
New York Mets Pitcher Jacob deGrom wasted no time recovering from his injury this season. He made his season debut in early August and, after not playing since July 2021, became New York’s top pitcher. Mets owner Steve Cohen is making it clear that he will prioritize keeping deGrom around.
said Cohen the New York Post“Listen, he certainly has the right to do so [opt out]. We love Jacob and I think he’s the best pitcher in baseball. We’ll do everything we can to make sure he stays. But it is his choice, not ours.”
The Mets veteran has had a lot of success with the team and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Since returning this season, deGrom has posted a 2.15 ERA, a .139 batting average and a .55 WHIP over 29.1 innings. He struck out 46 and allowed just 14 hits and seven runs.
While this feat isn’t unusual for him, it comes as a surprise given the length of time he’s been out. He obviously didn’t need any extra time to get used to playing again.
In his nine-year career, he has produced an ERA of 2.49, a BAA of 0.212 and a WHIP of 1.00. The Mets already have several talented pitchers, but deGrom has emerged as the most valuable and will continue to help the team thrive.
