Steve Cohen has a hilarious reaction to Mets fans’ love for Edwin Diaz

A New York Mets fan wants the team to sign Edwin Diaz for life. Owner Steve Cohen had a hilarious response to the request.

That New York Mets had many contributors who helped the team maintain first place in the NL East for most of the 2022 season. But the only consistent player was Edwin Diaz, who was out for the team. He proved just that in a crucial game against a division rival.

On Thursday night, Diaz took on the Atlanta Braves in the eighth inning and managed to hit the six necessary outs to give New York a 6-4 win.

A Mets fan decided to seek out team owner Steve Cohen for a proposition, which was to sign Diaz forever. Cohen responded, joking that signing him for life would be too expensive since Diaz is only 28 years old.

It might not be for life, but Diaz will land a pretty hefty contract next season if he keeps it up.

Diaz got out of the eighth inning relatively easily when he forced Dansby Swanson to the floor while beating Matt Olson and Austin Riley back-to-back. The ninth inning was a bit of a challenge as he immediately handed a single to Eddie Rosario. He forced Travis d’Arnaud to fly out but threw a wild pitch that allowed Rosario to advance to second base during the Marcell Ozuna at-bat. Despite this, Diaz knocked out Ozuna, forcing Orlando Arcia to quit the game.

This season, Diaz now carries a 1.44 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP through 43 games. He has now recorded 24 saves in 27 occasions.

There must be a lot of Mets fans who want Diaz to re-sign with the team. Whether that will be the case during Hot Stove season remains to be seen, of course. Steve Cohen has a hilarious reaction to Mets fans’ love for Edwin Diaz
