Stetson Bennett has just helped give Georgia its first national championship since 1980 but the midfielder seems uncertain that he will stay in Athens.
The game against an Alabama dynasty and a 5-star counterpart in the quarterback in Bryce Young, Georgia Bulldogs signal caller Stetson Bennett proved countless doubts wrong Monday night. The so-called Postman brought the show its first national championship in 41 years.
Bennett may not be an NFL prospect, may not have the biggest arm and, most simply, may not be the most talented defender on Kirby Smart’s roster. But he has shown throughout this season that his leadership and what he has is more than enough for UGA’s top talent and defense to take the show to the top.
But will he come back to do it again and try again next season?
Georgia football: Stetson Bennett transfer possibility?
Being interview on Good Morning America on Tuesday morning, Bennett was asked about his future. And his response was rather non-committal, most notably when he said, “I’m going to play football this year – we’ll see where. We’ll see if I can trust the decisions of the staff, and we’ll see where I play. ”
It’s understandable why Bennett might be unsure of his position. What JT Daniels, Bennett’s former 5-star sub, who has been hampered by injury throughout the season, remains to be seen. The Bulldogs also have young top rookies with Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton also waiting.
Will any of those people take Bennett’s place? That remains to be considered but is likely to be the reason Postman is taking a wait-and-see approach regarding his future with the show.
Regardless, after the title win, it will be interesting to see what the winning quarterback has planned – namely if he remains the quarterback for the show’s title defense duties for the season. next prize.
