Stephen Thompson shares his open thoughts on Conor McGregor’s training and mindset for Notorious’ highly anticipated UFC rematch against Michael Chandler

Everyone knows that Conor McGregor is planning his comeback in the Octagon in the second half of this year. But it’s natural to wonder if The Notorious will be able to reproduce the same level of performance he showed prior to his fatal injury. Stephen Thompson, a close acquaintance of Conor, addressed the Irishman’s supporters about his form in the most convincing way.

The former dual-weight champion is currently based in Las Vegas, Nevada filming season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter alongside fellow Octagon opponent Michael Chandler. As soon as filming for TUF began, so did the excitement and uproar that was only to be expected from The Notorious.

What did Stephen Thompson say about Conor McGregor?

UFC fighter Stephen Thompson recently spoke about his anticipation for McGregor’s return and the reasons why he believes McGregor will be as good as he was at his peak. In an interview with Submission Radio, the American heavyweight praised Conor, with whom he has a longstanding friendship.

“I don’t know if you’ve seen the size of his fist, he’s like a melon of a fist, like what the heck man and no wonder he knocks people out with that one hitter quitter punch. But he’s moving again,” Thompson said.

One of the reasons Conor was so divisive was his haughty attitude towards fans and fighters. This time, however, the American has a different perspective. Conor, according to the 40-year-old, listened to the fans this time. McGregor no longer has the boxer mentality he had against Poirier, but he has returned to his movement origins and that’s what Conor fans will see the next time he steps into the octagon.

“For someone recovering from an injury like this, their mindset is like it didn’t even happen. He’s going back to his roots. He’s never trained in karate, but he’s trained with a lot of karate guys and that’s where he gets a lot of his movement from. Thompson further added.

What do you think after hearing what Wonderboy had to say about McGregor? Do you think the Irish superstar can regain his glory days and become lightweight champion again?
