Steelers rookie is already frustrated by Mitch Trubisky’s lack of goals

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver George Pickens feels wide open at every stretch. Mitch Trubisky just can’t find him.

Pickens was selected from Georgia in the second round and should have an immediate impact on the field and in a crowded wide receiver room.

That didn’t happen, despite a successful preseason in which he built some camaraderie Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett. Offense isn’t flowing for the Pittsburgh Steelers right now, and something needs to change. Maybe Pickens could be that spark.

“I’m just saying that because I’m a big guy who runs in the low 4.4 seconds,” Pickens said. via the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. “I always have a stride on someone and my stride is naturally longer than the other person and I’m actually fast. I (will) always have a stride and always feel like I’m open 99 percent of the time, even though the ball gets there in the air and (the defender) has time to catch up. … But I’m open as soon as I get off the line.”

Steelers need to integrate George Pickens more

In the end, it’s up to Pickens to achieve his goals and make the most of them. But if he says he’s open – and the film shows that – then it’s up to the offensive coaching staff to put him in a position to make plays.

The responsibility lies with the Steelers here, and I say that because he’s far from the only player in the ability position to show some frustration with offense. Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool have both said there have been opportunities for big games. Pittsburgh isn’t taking those risks, however, just as they didn’t last year when Ben Roethlisberger was on his last legs.

Is this a player issue or a system issue? For now, Matt Canada seems to be answering a few questions. Steelers rookie is already frustrated by Mitch Trubisky’s lack of goals
