‘Star Trek: Klingons’ Will Reveal the Legend of Kahless in New IDW Comics

Since its introduction in “Star Trek: The Original Series” in 1967 in the first season’s “Errand of Mercy” episode, savage savage aliens known as the Klingons have become one of the enemies. The largest of the Science Fiction Federation.

In honor of Klingon’s legacy, IDW Publishers is adding to their massive “Star Trek” line of comics and graphic novels with a special, oversized February shoot titled “Star Trek: Klingons. “It’s all part of IDW’s new extended Trek offerings that focus on the origins of the franchise’s diversity of alien entities.
“There’s no ‘Star Trek’ without the massive alien population that calls the universe home,” editor Heather Antos said in a statement. IDW Press Release. “From Klingons to Ferengi, Vulcans to Trill and more, it’s exciting to dive into what makes each species a unique addition to the worlds of Trek, Mirrorverse, or otherwise!”
Here in this long-running issue, the theme is the rise of the fearsome warrior king, Kahless The Unfornough. Written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly (“Star Trek: Year Five”) with art via fan-favorite Timothy Green II (“Starlord,” “Annihilators,” “Animal Man”), “Star Trek: Klingons,” ” chronicles the life of the most formidable warrior in the Klingon Empire, from the death of his coward brother Morath to his victorious campaign at the Three Turns Bridge.
“For the most part, I was raised by ‘Star Trek,’ and no culture has helped me value my masculinity, anger, and personal code of honor more than the Klingons,” Lanzing said. Press Release. “So when I tell you the only thing more exciting to me than taking the Enterprise crew on their final journey in ‘Star Trek: Year Five’ is proving the man behind the legendary Kahless The Unfornough, you can believe it.”
According to Lanzing’s longtime creative partner, Collin Kelly, the Klingons provide a rich perspective to the Federation.
“They embody a lifestyle that is loud and fearless, but also incredibly equal and fair; whoever you are, respect is earned, not given,” Kelly said in IDW’s statement. “We advertised this story before we were hired to write ‘Star Trek.’ In a million years, we never thought it would be a story that we would actually have to bring to life, and with an artist of the caliber of Timothy Green II – whose work is detailed, stunning indebted to the greats of the Japanese tradition – this will be a story worthy of Kahless.”
“Star Trek: Klingons“is coming February 23 with cover variations including Cover A by interior artist Timothy Green II and a Retail Deal edition by Alexandra Beguez.
The next entry in IDW’s new prestigious format series will be “Star Trek: Ferengi” in April, starring the Milky Way’s most greedy and calculating aliens.
