Western Conference Wild Card Race Will Be Competitive

The east conference is definitely the more dominant conference in the NHL, but the playoff race will be much more competitive in the west. Five teams look to be in a good position to challenge the current seven-seeded Golden Knights for their wild card placement. The Minnesota Wild were one of the few buyers in the West, but their odds on the trophies varied only slightly.

Ducks, Jets, Sharks, and Canucks are all close-in sellers despite a hit in the wild card position. Anaheim is part of blockbuster trade deal including their top defender Hampus Lindholm. Their team received many picks in return for promising defenders.

The Canucks wanted a spot in the wild card race despite selling both Tyler Motte and Travis Hamonic. Vancouver has acquired Travis Dermott from the Maple Leafs to strengthen their defenses. Dermott is only 25 years old so he won’t make an immediate impact but this team has looked solid all year. With the team keeping superstar JT Miller, the Canucks can still run for the wild card position. They are currently four points behind the Golden Knights for the seventh seed.

Panthers Emerging as Eastern Conference favorites

The Florida Panthers were the biggest winners at the end of the day, and their Stanley Cup odds reflected that. The Panthers have acquired many elite players over the past few days, including Claude Giroux, Ben Chariot, and Petteri Lindbohm. The Panthers are just three points behind the Colorado Avalanche in the race for the presidential trophy. Their new acquisitions have greatly boosted their chances of winning the national cup title. They jumped from fourth as the second most likely team to win them all.

Lindbohm and Chariot will be the necessary pieces to end the regular season with Aaron Eklbad’s recent injury. Chariot, who hails from Canada, will be the first double guard and he’s a great fit in Florida. The 30-year-old defenders have the elite size and experience for a Panthers team to launch in May.

Expect the additions of Chariot and Giroux to take Florida into the deep playoffs. Stanley Cup Playoff Odds (Updated)
