Square Enix has released four brand new trailers for the upcoming HD-2D Live A Live remake. These short trailers showcase four of the game’s seven stories, giving us a glimpse of Medieval, Near Future, Wild West, and Twilight of Edo Japan. All four trailers can be seen below to give a taste of what to expect in each installment of the JRPG.
As part of a Japanese livestream ahead of the game’s release date, Square Enix gave everyone a sneak peek at four of Live A Live’s seven stories. Nobody can imagine why only four. Each of the stories featured here takes place in a different time period, with different settings, gameplay, and more. You can check out each of the four trailers below.
The story of the Middle Ages challenges you (the young warrior Oersted) to save Princess Alethea and defeat the Lord of Darkness. This part of the game seems to have a more traditional JRPG setting and storyline, but it pops with the beautiful HD 2D graphics.
In the story of The Near Future, you take control of Akira, who has the power to read people’s minds, and embark on a mission to investigate a series of kidnappings by the Crusaders, a notorious biker gang . Also, this section of the game has a robotic turtle as a teammate. What’s not to like about it?
The Wild West puts you in control of the Sundown Kid, who is convinced to take up arms against a band of deadly outlaws. Honestly the western theme and setting looks great here and could be the star of the show.

The Twilight of Edo Japan puts you in the shoes of the ninja Oboromaru who has decided to “take on a secret mission to infiltrate an enemy castle”. In this part of the game you can use camouflage to avoid enemy encounters. There seems to be a lot to do when Live A Live is released for the first time in the west this summer.
