Splatoon 3 is getting a surprise expansion that brings back Inkopolis

turn 3‘s Expansion Pass is out now on Switch, with two waves of DLC coming later this year. The first brings back turn 1‘s Inkopolis, while the second looks like a new mini-adventure titled Side Order.
Wave 1 was announced during Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct and will be released sometime this spring. In addition to the return of the first game’s popular social hub, players will be able to visit all their old favorite stores alongside new and returning traders. Most importantly, the Squid Sisters will be performing there during Splatfest.
Here’s the trailer:
More fascinating is wave 2, which has no release date yet. The trailer simply shows an Inkling wainto a painterly, dreamlike sequence that is as trippy as it is haunting. It’s called “Side Order” and looks like it’s going to take place in a white ash-covered version of Inkopolis Square. I have no idea what all this means, but it’s piqupiqued my interest in the base game at least as much.
Nintendo’s colorful party shooter set sales records in Japan when it was released last fall and has already sold out over 10 million copies since launch. Online connectivity has its fair share of problemsbut the rest of the game lived up to the hype.

turn 3 was not a full blown sequel as much as a bigger, more robust sequel to turn 2. Like Blizzard surveillance 2it basically replaced the previous game and with this new expansion pass it looks like it’s Nintendo Building on this one Foundation by bringing in both new and old content. We hope Nintendo continues to do so for a while yet to come, unlike done with it some of his other online multiplayer hits.
