Nintendo Switch Online is offering free Splatoon 2 DLC ahead of Splatoon 3’s launch next month, but that’s not the only thing connecting the two games. If you have Splatoon 2 save data on your Switch, you can get a head start in the new game.
Listed on the official Splatoon 3 website (and conveniently shared by @NotTamako on Twitter) are four bonuses that previous players can receive. “Parts” of your Splatoon 2 save data can be transferred to 3. This unlocks three Golden Sheldon Licenses that can be spent on Main Weapons regardless of your player level. Likewise, you can throw yourself into new Anarchy Battles regardless of your level. Your starting rank will also increase based on your existing rank from Splatoon 3, meaning you’ll be compared to returning players of similar skill. Looking at the replies to @NotTamako’s tweet, some fans don’t actually want to start with a higher rank – maybe they’re feeling rusty. In any case, it’s a nice optional bonus for Splatoon 2 fans who want to hit the ground running in the third game.
Thanks to Direct, which aired recently, we’ve learned a lot more about Splatoon 3. The 30-minute presentation gave us a rundown of all the confirmed stages in the game: there are 12, five of which are entirely new, and the other seven are returning or reworked maps from the first two games. Similarly, Splatoon 3 will feature all of the main weapons from those first two games, resulting in a long list of confirmed weapons and weapon types.
The hype surrounding Splatoon 3 is real – the new Deep Cut idols have only added fuel to the fire. Fortunately, at the time of writing this article, there is only a month left. Splatoon 3’s release date is Friday 9th September and it will of course be exclusive to Nintendo Switch when it arrives.
